Dau Hu Nhoi Thit Sot Ca (Vietnamese Pork Stuffed Tofu with Tomato Sauce)
Ingredients:
8 pieces Fried Tofu
Stuffing
1 lb. Pork
1/4 cup chopped Wood Ear Mushroom
1/4 cup chopped Bean Thread
1 tsp. minced Garlic
1 tsp. sliced Shallots
White Green Onion
1 tsp. Sesame Oil
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Sugar
1 tsp. Oyster Sauce
Black Pepper
Frying Stuffed Tofu
Oil
1 tsp. minced Garlic
Tomato Sauce
6 Tomatoes
1 Tbsp. Oil
1 Tbsp. minced Garlic
1 Tbsp. sliced Shallots
3/4 tsp. Salt
1 1/2 tsp. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Light Soy Sauce
3/4 cup Chicken Broth
chopped Green Onions
Black Pepper
Soak the Wood Ear Mushroom and Bean Thread in water until soften. Then chop and set aside. Finely mince 1 lb. Pork, put in a bowl and set aside.
To marinate the pork.
In a bowl, add 1 lb. minced Pork. Add 1/4 cup chopped Wood Ear Mushroom. Add 1/4 cup chopped Bean Thread. Add 1 tsp. minced Garlic. Add 1 tsp. sliced Shallots.
Add in the white part of the chopped Green Onions. Add 1 tsp. Sesame Oil. Add 1/2 tsp. Salt. Add 1 tsp. Sugar. Add 1 tsp. Oyster Sauce. Add some Black Pepper. Mix well. Cover with plastic wrap, put in the fridge for 30 minutes.
While you wait, let's make Fried Tofu. Click on the link if you want to learn how to fry Tofu or you can purchase Tofu that has already been fried at your local market.
After 30 minutes, cut a slit in the Fried Tofu and stuff the Pork inside. Repeat until you finish stuffing all the Tofu pieces.
Add some Oil to cover the pan. Add 1 tsp. minced Garlic. Using medium heat, place in the stuffed Tofu. Remember to place the side that has the opening face down.
When it's cooked and golden, place on a rack and set aside.
To make the Tomato Sauce you will need the following ingredients 6 Tomatoes, 1 Tbsp. Oil, 1 Tbsp. minced Garlic, 1 Tbsp. sliced Shallots, 3/4 tsp. Salt
1 1/2 tsp. Sugar, 1 Tbsp. Light Soy Sauce, 3/4 cup Chicken Broth, chopped Green Onions, and Black Pepper.
Wash and rinse 6 Tomatoes. Cut into pieces, put in a bowl and set aside. Have all your ingredients ready.
Add 1 Tbsp. Oil into pan. Add 1 Tbsp. minced Garlic. Add 1 Tbsp. sliced Shallots. Sauté until lightly brown.
Add the Tomatoes. Remember to use medium heat. Add 3/4 tsp. Salt. Add 1 1/2 tsp. Sugar. Add 1 Tbsp. Light Soy Sauce.
Mix well and add 3/4 cup Chicken Broth. Then add in the stuffed Tofu. Let it simmer in the sauce for a few minutes.
Add in chopped Green Onions and some Black Pepper.
Serve with soy sauce and rice.
